3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition – Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE)

The 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition occurs at the annual Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE) conference and invites graduate students to showcase their research through a concise and engaging presentation. This event promotes the development of academic communication skills and helps participants effectively translate their research to a broader audience.

Key Features:

    • Time Limit: Participants have just three minutes to present their research.
    • Visual Aid: One static PowerPoint slide is permitted—no animations, props, or additional media.
    • Audience: Presentations should be accessible to a non-specialist audience while maintaining scholarly integrity.
    • Content: Talks should clearly convey the research question, significance, and impact of the work.
    • Skills Development: Encourages the development of strong communication, storytelling, and public speaking skills.
    • Judging Criteria: Entries are evaluated based on clarity, engagement, and effectiveness in communicating complex ideas succinctly.
    • Recognition: Winners are acknowledged for excellence in research communication and receive accolades during the ASTE Annual Meeting.
