Manuscript Awards (awards IV & V)

The Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE) offers a suite of paper-focused awards that recognize outstanding scholarly contributions to the field of science teacher education. These awards highlight manuscripts that not only advance academic knowledge but also offer meaningful insights for teacher preparation, professional development, and educational practice.

Two key paper award categories include:

Also offered to both graduate students and regular members, this award seeks to encourage the development and dissemination of new designs for courses and curricula, new instructional methods or approaches, and other types of innovations in the pre- or in-service education of teachers of science. Manuscripts may deal with practices for the preparation of elementary, middle school, or secondary teachers.  Papers in this category would be suitable for the ASTE journal, Innovations in Science Teacher Education.
Offered to both graduate students and regular members, manuscripts submitted for this award should identify a persistent and recurring problem in the practice of science teacher education. The manuscript should clearly articulate a philosophical point or position to resolve the problem based upon a comprehensive synthesis of relevant research that interprets theoretical and empirical research for practice. Alternatively, the manuscript may discuss a research study and its implications for science teaching and learning.  Papers in this category would be suitable for the ASTE journal, Journal of Science Teacher Education.

By recognizing excellence across these categories, ASTE supports a vibrant scholarly community that values both the advancement of knowledge and its real-world application. These awards reinforce ASTE’s mission to elevate the quality and impact of science teacher education through evidence-based practice and forward-thinking research.

Nominations for Awards IV & V must be submitted online by April 1.
